External and Room Terminals for MVHR

room terminals

Please have a look below at our range of most common room terminals and grilles for outside. Rather than the standard plastic valves, we only offer high quality material with best performance. Other products are available on request.

Different Types of Room Terminals

Room terminals are often the only visible part of a ventilation system. They need to be pleasing to the eye, but should also be functional and operating quietly. Room terminals that can be adjusted are also called ‘valves’.

  • We distinguish between terminals for extract and supply air. Some valves can be used for both applications.
  • Supply terminals need special attention, as their specific flow pattern should avoid drafts. In some cases it should project air from a wall into a room.

All of these should be adjustable, lockable and cleanable. We do promote the use of high-quality room and external terminals.

Lindab Airy

We do like Lindab’s Airy room valve, as it is not just a sleek designer terminal, but also performs very well in terms of air flow and noise. It can be used for both, supply and extract air. It has a round filter pad that avoids friction and therefore helps with its quiet operation.

  • The Airy valve comes in 3 sizes: 100, 125 and 150/160mm.
  • 5 different shaped front plates: round, square, bow, ellipse and rectangle.
  • Available in powder coated white (RAL 9003) or in stainless steel (only front plate). They can be powder coated in all RAL colours.

For us, the Airy 125 with round front plate in white, is the standard choice for single developments.

We normally use it with a mounting ring with double seals, as it allows more easy access, when inserted into a plenum.

The flush powder coated finish is unobstrusive, doesn’t discolours and doesn’t have that cheap plastic feel to it.

Zehnder Luna

Zehnder Luna Supply and Extract Valves

The Luna valve comes in two versions for supply and extract.

The front-plate can be taken off for the commissioning of the valves.

They come with in-built rubber seals for gripping into 125mm plenums.

Like the Luna extract valve the supply valve can easily be adjusted and locked in position, showing position numbers, which can be noted down in the commissioning report.

Zehnder Torino

Wall Diffuser for Supply

We use these flush Torino grilles of Zehnder as wall supply grilles, which project the air gently into the room.

They come in square or round with white or stainless steel finish.

We normally use insert dampers in the plenum for the commissioning of these terminals.

Flush Kitchen Extract with Filter

For the extract terminal in domestic kitchens it is important to offer filtration against grease intake into the ductwork. Unless dust, grease deposits cannot be removed with duct cleaning equipment. Either filter cones behind the valve or a terminal with an in-built G3 grease filters offer a reasonable protection. However, filter cones, that are hidden, can easily be forgotten. We therefore recommend these large surface filter elements with visible filter.

Bolt-on Extract with Filter

A simple form of protection is a bolt-on filter element with open back, which can be placed over extract valves.

We recommend to install the MVHR kitchen extract close to the cooker/ recirculating cooker hood.

Fire Safety Room Terminals

We offer intumescent room terminals, which act as fire dampers when ceilings need to be fire protected.

In two storey single occupancy dwellings some professionals deem it best practice to protect the ground floor ceiling. Please check with your Building Control officer what the local requirements are.

external grilles

External Louvred Grille

External grilles need to be esthetically pleasing and functional with enough free area. For lovered or coweld grilles, we recommend a minimum distance between intake and exhaust of 1-2m.

Combi Grilles

Directionally seperated combi grilles are a good way to reduce the length of the intake and exhaust ducting, which saves space, insulation and materials. They have been tested in various weather conditions to keep cross-contamination at a minimum.

roof cowls

Roof Cowls

Roof cowls need an additional condensate connection and are therefore not our preferred option.

Please note that slate vents are not suitable for MVHR systems and low level mushroom cowls are probably not suitable for air intakes, as they could be covered by snow in winter.
