Research, commissioned by the Scottish Government on the effectiveness of dMEV systems has shown that a large proportion of systems don’t provide the necessary air quality.
Whilst dMEV and MEV systems have been designed to deal with excessive humidity in wet rooms and kitchens, they are not particularly good in delivering fresh air into habitable rooms. Indoor air quality is hit and miss with all of these extract only systems. In theory they pull fresh air through trickle vents in all habitable rooms, thus covering the whole dwelling. In reality, however, this air flow path will swap and change with the use of the dwelling. The opening or closing of trickle vents, the drawing of curtains and the closing of internal doors will alter the air flow path, which will follow the path of lease resistance. Some rooms, e.g. an occupied bedroom with a closed door might benefit very little or next to nothing from the dMEV system.
